Relationship Development Director – Mid Corporate Banking

About the Role

As a Relationship Development Director in the Mid Corporate business area of Corporate Banking, you'll seek to understand our clients’ objectives, opportunities, and challenges, and work with them to achieve their business ambitions. You'll offer expert industry insight across every sector—from manufacturing and technology to restaurants and law firms—collaborating with product specialists to deliver tailored financial solutions for high-net-worth individuals and mid-sized businesses.


Key Responsibilities

Client and Relationship Management

  • Conduct market research and analysis to identify new opportunities, industry trends, and evolving client needs.
  • Develop and execute growth strategies, expanding the customer base through proactive relationship-building.
  • Manage existing and new client relationships, ensuring their business goals align with the bank’s solutions.
  • Leverage industry expertise to anticipate challenges and provide strategic recommendations for clients in sectors like risk management, financial planning, and expansion.

Business Development & Revenue Growth

  • Identify leads through networking, referrals, cold outreach, and participation in industry events.
  • Acquire new business and drive revenue growth by securing high-potential partnerships.
  • Prepare customised financial proposals, collaborate with product specialists, and negotiate win-win solutions.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with relationship managers, product teams, credit analysts, operations, and compliance to ensure seamless delivery.
  • Present compelling value propositions to clients, justifying recommendations with insightful analysis.
  • Partner with internal stakeholders to develop innovative banking products that address client-specific needs.

Knowledge & Strategic Insight

  • Deeply understand client industries, including economic drivers, regulatory changes, and competitive landscapes.
  • Analyze data to identify trends, risk tolerance, and areas for revenue opportunities.

Essential Qualifications

  • Previous experience as a Relationship Director or equivalent position in financial services.
  • Strong commercial acumen with a client-centric, strategically minded approach.
  • Proficiency in Control Environment/Risk Management frameworks and banking compliance.
  • Exceptional business development skills, including lead generation, negotiation, and contract structuring.
  • In-depth knowledge of the Sussex market, including corporate clients, sector trends, and regional financial landscapes.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Accredited lending qualifications (e.g., CII Diploma/Agreement or equivalent).
  • Technical expertise in lending processes, banking systems, and unsecured lending strategies.
  • Industry specialisations (e.g., manufacturing, tech, retail, or professional services) as a bonus.
  • Experience in portfolio management or ancillary finance channels (e.g., asset finance, SME lending).

Location & Commitments
