Relationship Manager
Relationship Manager – Investment Team
North Wales, UK | Salary: up to £37k + up to 20% bonus
Varga is collaborating with a leading financial services business to recruit an Assistant Relationship Manager focused on originating and assessing investment opportunities, with a strong emphasis on unsecured lending.
Key Responsibilities

Originate & Assess Investments
- Analyse cash flow and evaluate predominantly unsecured lending opportunities.

Structured Target Achievement
- Meet agreed investment volumes and return targets.

Due Diligence & Risk Management
- Conduct financial, commercial and management due diligence, assessing key risks.

Negotiation & Documentation
- Structure and negotiate investment terms, including legal agreements.
- Prepare high-quality credit papers to support approvals, ensuring documentation moves through to closure.

- Stay updated on public sector and ERDF funding standards.
- Uphold best practice compliance and sector-specific technical knowledge.

Portfolio & Relationship Management
- Work with portfolio teams post-investment to nurture relationships and explore follow-on opportunities.

Deal Flow & Networking
- Build and manage relationships with introducers and intermediaries within the Welsh SME market.

Client Experience & Process Improvement
- Promote best practice in finance applications and contribute to enhancing client experience.

Representation & Industry Participation
- Represent the organisation at external events and within industry networks.

- Operational Compliance
- Operate within delegated lending authorities and adhere to internal guidelines.
Essential Requirements
- Experience in SME lending or investment.
- Hands-on expertise in preparing credit papers.
- Strong understanding of credit risk assessment and investment processes.
- Exceptional communication, influencing and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively.
- Sound judgement, adaptable decision-making, and leadership under pressure.
- High detail orientation, financial analysis abilities, and strong organisational skills.
- Established network of Welsh SME introducers.
