Relationship Manager, Visual Arts (ND11)

Relationship Manager, Visual Arts (ND11)

Contract: Permanent, working 35 hours per week We recognise the value of flexible working and welcome applications from individuals who require it.

Salary: £38,689 per annum (Grade C) plus benefits including:

  • Final salary pension scheme
  • Generous annual leave
  • Flexible and hybrid working

Location: Leeds (based in the Leeds Office, with hybrid working supported). (Typical on-site presence: 1–2 days per week)


About the Role

We are dedicated to ensuring the arts and cultural activities we fund in England are high-quality, inclusive, and accessible to everyone, regardless of background.

We seek a passionate Visual Arts Specialist with:

  • In-depth working knowledge of the visual arts sector (challenges, opportunities, and Yorkshire’s context)
  • Leadership experience, preferable in:
    • Running a gallery
    • Managing artistic studios
    • As a curator

As a Visual Arts Relationship Manager, you will:

  • Build empowering and effective relationships with funded organisations
  • Align the Yorkshire sector with Arts Council England’s strategic vision: ‘excellence for everybody, everywhere’
  • Collaborate across the English cultural landscape, addressing current challenges and opportunities
  • Work independently and collaboratively, leveraging data-driven evidence for decision-making

Key Responsibilities

  • Supporting funded organisations by:
    • Managing a portfolio of funded entities
    • Advising on Arts Council National Lottery Project Grants and related funds
  • Decision-making support:
    • Writing assessments and serving on funding panels
    • Analysing financial data, identifying risk, and reviewing artistic plans
  • Cultural development:
    • Leading place-based, creativity-led initiatives with local stakeholders
  • Diversity and inclusion focus:
    • Supporting first-time applicants’, especially to improve funding diversity

Requirements

  • Proven passion for visual arts and the sector’s evolving dynamics
  • Leadership in a gallery, studio, or curatorial role (preferred)
  • Strong collaboration, influencing and advocacy skills
  • Evidence-based working, including ability to:
    • Interpret data
    • Advocate bolstered by evidence
  • Commitment to cross-sector partnership within UK cultural contexts
