Reliability and Maintenance Engineer – JLR


About the Role

Working in Manufacturing at JLR, the Reliability and Maintenance Engineer will be the hands-on expert driving innovation to deliver modern luxury vehicles. As part of the BIW Reliability Department, you’ll ensure Technical Availability meets design standards, implement reliability growth strategies, and foster continuous improvement. You’ll collaborate with stakeholders across JLR and the OEM community in a dynamic environment that shapes the future of automotive excellence.


Responsibilities

As a Reliability and Maintenance Engineer, you will:

  • Lead reliability growth initiatives

    • Develop and execute plans to improve Technical Availability and alignment with Maintenance KPIs.
    • Analyse MTTR (Mean Time to Repair) and MTBF (Mean Time Between Failures) data to drive improvements.
  • Support maintenance strategies

    • Implement Condition-Based Monitoring (CBM) and Predictive Maintenance for Body Construction Manufacturing systems.
    • Ensure Preventive Maintenance (PM) schedules are adhered to, analysed, and harmonised with Reliability & Maintenance (R&M) data.
  • Enhance data reporting and tracking

    • Collaborate with the Asset Maintenance Excellence (AME) and maintenance teams to develop and deploy R&M data systems.

  • Facilitate Total Productive Maintenance (TPM)

    • Embrace the TPM model and contribute to its implementation.
    • Lead TPM activities on the shopfloor, engaging production and maintenance staff through Kaizen processes to drive continuous improvement.
  • Training and development

    • Support the planning and procurement of training programmes for BIW Maintenance and Stampings teams.

Requirements

To excel in this role, you should possess:

  • Technical expertise

    • Strong knowledge of maintenance operations, reliability principles, and maintainability practices.
    • Demonstrated mechanical and electrical automotive engineering experience, particularly in large, automated environments.
  • Problem-solving and improvement skills

    • Experience leading technical improvement activities through structured methods (e.g., Kaizen, root cause analysis).
    • Ability to apply a logical, analytical approach to resolving complex issues.
  • Soft skills

    • Proven ability to liaise effectively with project teams, stakeholders, and cross-functional OEM communities.
    • Excellent collaboration skills and a willingness to drive growth within a high-performing team.
  • Technical proficiency

    • Competent use of Microsoft Office suite, including Excel (data analysis) and PowerPoint (presentations).
