Reliability Engineer

Reliability Engineer – Barnsley Based at Carlton, Barnsley, S71 3HF – The home of Mr Kipling


Job Title & Type

  • Location: Carlton, Barnsley (Barnsley Site)
  • Salary: up to £55,000 per annum
  • Contract: Permanent, Full-Time (39 hours/week)
  • Closing Date: Sunday, 31st May 2026

About the Role

A permanent, full-time opportunity exists for a Reliability Engineer to join our Barnsley team. You will lead the formulation and implementation of a cost-effective maintenance strategy for site equipment, focusing on:

  • Optimising preventative and proactive maintenance aligned with reliability and cost objectives.
  • Ensuring maximum asset performance while achieving KPIs and sustainable efficiency within safety, quality, and environmental compliance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintenance Strategy & Delivery

    • Develop and optimise a cost-effective maintenance programme to enhance reliability across electrical, mechanical, and automation assets in bakery operations (e.g., mixing, depositing, oveens, packing).
    • Act as the main liaison with Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) for maintenance escalations and breakdown support.
  • Equipment Efficiency & CAPEX

    • Collaborate with engineering/manufacturing teams to ensure optimal equipment utilisation.
    • Support the Site Capital Plan by ensuring technical documentation (e.g., Maintenance Operating Procedures) is up-to-date.
    • Contribute to future CAPEX planning, including asset obsolescence analysis and machine upgrade strategies.

Qualifications & Experience

Essential Requirements

  • Apprentice-level training in electrical, mechanical, or automation disciplines.
  • Specialist knowledge of:
    • Bakery & process equipment (e.g., mixing, depositing, ovens, packaging).
    • OEM Asset Care guidance protocols.
    • Asset management systems (e.g., planning overhauls, upgrades) with demonstrated strong planning/organisational skills.
  • Problem-solving expertise: Ability to apply analytical tools/techniques to operational challenges.
  • Communication & Leadership: Skills to influence, lead teams directly/indirectly, and liaise across levels (e.g., operators to senior engineers).
  • Analytical Experience: Proven ability to diagnose complex operational issues.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Experience within food manufacturing environments (preferred but not mandatory).

  • Salary: Up to £55,000 per annum.
  • Hours: 08:30–17:00 (Mon–Fri), with flexibility to accommodate business needs.
