# Reliability Maintenance Engineering (RME) Technician
The Reliability Maintenance Engineering (RME) team at Amazon is critical to our operations — they ensure vital machinery runs seamlessly at all times. As an RME Technician, you’ll maintain a diverse range of equipment and workspaces while prioritising Health and Safety compliance. You’ll support meticulous equipment availability, prevent breakdowns, and enhance operational efficiency for Amazon’s distribution centres.
Key Responsibilities

Proactive & Preventative Maintenance
- Carry out routine maintenance tasks on a wide variety of site equipment
- Ensure all machinery complies with safety standards

Reactive Repairs & Troubleshooting
- Diagnose and resolve equipment faults in live distribution warehouses
- Respond urgently to breakdowns to minimise downtime

Technical Excellence
- Utilise the latest tools to maximise equipment efficiency
- Understand and apply condition-based monitoring best practices

Health & Safety Leadership
- Adhere to and uphold all Health and Safety policies on-site
- Support coaching and mentorship of on-site apprentices

Innovation & Process Improvement
- Contribute to continuous improvement projects
- Implement best practices across EU-based Amazon sites

Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work with senior team members and external contractors as necessary
A Day in the Life
As an on-site RME Technician, you’ll:
- Conduct planned preventative maintenance, ensuring equipment safety and reliability.
- React swiftly to unplanned faults with diagnostics, repairs, and long-term solutions.
- Partner with engineers to undertake daily maintenance tasks.
- Rotate shifts to provide 24/7 coverage of Amazon’s operations, including night shifts.
- Deliver orders with speed and precision—just as Amazon customers expect.

About the RME Team
Our Reliability Maintenance Engineering (RME) team drives Amazon’s technological backbone, ranging from:
- Equipment maintenance (from Complex Item Sorters to conveyor systems).
- Automated packaging systems installation and servicing.
- Safety compliance, ensuring warehouses operate within legal standards.
- Facility upkeep to improve operational efficiency.
The team blends technical expertise, teamwork, and leadership, offering clear progression paths both within Amazon and across the entire RME spectrum. We pride ourselves on world-class equipment reliability, ensuring orders reach customers on time.

Basic Qualifications
✅ Diploma/Qualification (Level 3)
- NVQ Level 3, SVQ Level 3 in Mechanical/Electrical/Mechatronics, City & Guilds Level 3, IVQ Level 3, or EAL Level 3 (equivalent fields).

✅ Technical Experience
- Proficient, qualified experience in mechanical or electrical maintenance.
- Hands-on familiarity with mechanical/electrical equipment and site repairs.
✅ Language Skills
- Advanced verbal and written proficiency in the local language.
Preferred Qualifications
🔹 Degree – An Associate’s Degree in Mechanical/Electrical Eng. 🔹 Specialised Experience
- Material Handling Equipment (MHE):
- Safety standards compliant (OSHA/OEM compliance).
- Robotics – Knowledge of operation and maintenance.
- Conveyor & automation systems – Skills in fault-finding and maintenance.
- Print & Apply Machines + any condition-monitoring expertise.
