Reliability Maintenance Engineering (RME) Technician – Amazon UK

About the Role

The Reliability Maintenance Engineering (RME) team at Amazon is fundamental to our operations – they’re the ones maintaining vital machinery to ensure uninterrupted performance. As an RME Technician, you’ll maintain a diverse range of equipment and workspaces while upholding Health and Safety best practices. Your role is critical in keeping colleagues safe and preventing machine downtime. RME Technicians boost equipment availability, enhance operational quality, and improve the workspace environment.


Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure proactive and preventative maintenance for site equipment
  • Conduct reactive repairs and fault diagnosis in live distribution warehouses
  • Utilise the latest tools to maximise equipment effectiveness
  • Strictly follow and uphold all health and safety policies
  • Support the development and progression of on-site apprentices
  • Participate in continuous improvement projects and implement best practices across EU sites

A Day in the Life

As an RME Technician, you’ll be on-site, enabling rapid response to machinery issues. Responsibilities include:

  • Performing scheduled preventative maintenance to ensure equipment safety and functionality
  • Responding promptly to equipment breakdowns, investigating causes, and implementing solutions quickly
  • Suggesting and driving long-term improvements
  • Conducting daily maintenance tasks alongside senior colleagues
  • Engaging with contractors when external expertise is required
  • Working various shifts to ensure 24/7 site support for uninterrupted Amazon operations

About the Team

Our Reliability Maintenance Engineering (RME) Team ensures equipment operates at peak performance. Comprising technically skilled and collaborative professionals, we work together to maintain, troubleshoot, and repair critical assets across our global fulfilment centres. Leadership in the team oversees innovations, including groundbreaking technologies such as automated packaging systems, robotic solutions, and Complex Item Sorter systems.

The team is responsible for:

  • Installing automated packaging systems
  • Overseeing site maintenance
  • Repairing vital distribution equipment
  • Ensuring legal compliance and maximum efficiency to keep operations running seamlessly

Career progression within the team, as well as broader Amazon opportunities, is encouraged. Our focus on reducing downtime means our work supports timely order fulfilment—sometimes requiring evening or night shifts. Pervasive opportunities exist for innovation and implementing new processes, including advancements like Amazon Robotics.


Requirements

Basic Qualifications

  • NVQ Level 3 in Mechanical, Electrical, or Mechatronics OR completion of a 4-year UK-certified engineering apprenticeship
  • A full Engineering indentured apprenticeship **AND/**or qualification to a minimum NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in a relevant Engineering subject
  • Relevant experience as a qualified engineer
  • Experience in mechanical and/or electrical maintenance
  • Advanced proficiency in verbal and written local language communication

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
  • Experience with Material Handling Equipment (MHE) safety in line with OEM and industry standards
  • Experience in robotic operation and maintenance
