September 2026 Start | Permanent & Full-Time | Newham, Borough of Newham


About the Role

A ‘Good’ Secondary School in Newham is seeking an ambitious Religious Studies Teacher to join their growing department in September 2026. The school offers:

  • Permanent, directly employed contract (no supply, agency, or temporary roles)
  • Supportive Senior Leadership Team (SLT) with excellent Progress 8 results
  • Cutting-edge teacher training and CPD, including a bespoke 2-week October half-term
  • Two Secondary School of the Year nominations (2024, 2025)
  • TLR opportunities for experienced teachers (e.g., KS3 Coordinator, Pastoral Responsibility, 2iC, Head of Department)
  • Induction for Early Career Teachers (ECT): 1:1 mentoring, in-house training, and external development

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, deliver, and assess high-quality Religious Studies lessons aligned with curriculum frameworks
  • Meet the 8 Teaching Standards (Good or Outstanding)
  • Support department growth through innovative teaching practices
  • (For TLRs if awarded) Take responsibility for KS3 coordination, pastoral oversight, or leadership initiatives
  • Work coherently with fellow teachers, TAs, and SLT for student progress
  • Engage in continuous professional development (Additional duties as assigned by management.)

Requirements

Essential Skills & Qualifications

✅ Completed or in progress UK QTS (Qualified Teacher Status) ✅ Degree in Religious Studies, Theology, or related subject ✅ Strong A Level & GCSE grades (or equivalent) ✅ Proven ability to meet the 8 Teaching Standards at 'Good' level or better ✅ Experience teaching RE or Religious Studies at secondary level ✅ Excellent behaviour management and pastoral care skills ✅ proven ability to give and receive feedback constructively


Desirable (if applying via TLR route or long-termgrowth)

🔹 Prior Classroom Leadership Experience (Year 7 Head, Final Responsibility, etc.) 🔹 Experience with departmental curriculum design 🔹 Familiarity with SISO (Students and Insight Outcomes) tracking 🔹 Open-minded approach to new teaching methodologies (e.g., gamification, flipped learning)
