About the Role
This role involves creating six key illustrations for a children’s picture book series aimed at ages 6 to 10. The artwork will be central to marketing efforts, a Kickstarter campaign, and a limited-edition print series, with the possibility of further collaboration on the wider series. The project requires delivery of the illustrations in three batches over approximately three weeks, with a final deadline of 14 August 2026. The desired style is loose, hand-drawn pencil or ink linework with a soft watercolour wash, evoking a warm, storybook-like, and slightly imperfect feel. The illustrations should complement the narrative, carrying emotional and storytelling weight alongside the text. Both traditional and digital techniques are acceptable, but AI-generated or AI-assisted content is strictly prohibited. Applicants should provide a portfolio demonstrating children’s book illustration, character design, hand-drawn linework, and watercolour or wash techniques.

Deliverables

- Strong character design skills, particularly for young audiences.
- Commitment to original, non-AI-generated artwork.
- Excellent time management and ability to meet tight deadlines.
- Availability for communication and feedback throughout the project duration.
- Experience with marketing or campaign artwork for publishing projects is a plus.
