Research Scientist
Molecular Diagnostics | qPCR | Biotechnology
If you’re an ambitious scientist looking to build your career in molecular diagnostics, this is an excellent opportunity to join a rapidly growing biotechnology company developing innovative qPCR technologies used by laboratories around the world.
Working as part of a collaborative R&D team, you’ll play a key role in developing, testing and optimising new qPCR products that help deliver best-in-class molecular diagnostics. Most of your time will be spent in the laboratory designing, running and analysing experiments, while also working closely with colleagues across Operations, Commercial and Customer Support to bring new products from concept through to customer application.

The Role
As a Research Scientist, your responsibilities will include:
- Planning, conducting and analysing real-time PCR/qPCR experiments.
- Running multiple laboratory experiments while managing changing project priorities.
- Supporting the development and optimisation of new molecular diagnostic products.
- Recording and interpreting experimental data using Excel and other laboratory systems.
- Providing scientific and technical support to internal teams and customers.
- Collaborating with Operations, Commercial and Customer Support to ensure successful product delivery.
- Participating in weekly R&D meetings to present findings and discuss ongoing projects.
- Working within ISO13485 quality systems and supporting Quality Management activities where required.

About You
We’re looking for someone who enjoys solving scientific challenges and thrives in a collaborative environment. You’ll be organised, adaptable and comfortable balancing multiple projects while maintaining attention to detail.
You’ll ideally have:
- A PhD with around one year of industry experience, or approximately two years’ commercial laboratory experience without a PhD.
- Hands-on experience with PCR/qPCR and molecular biology techniques.
- Strong laboratory skills, including pipetting and experimental planning.
- Good data analysis skills and confidence using Excel, including functions such as XLOOKUP.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly.
- A proactive, solution-focused approach, bringing ideas as well as identifying challenges.
- A collaborative mindset and willingness to support colleagues within a small, friendly R&D team.
Desirable Experience
- Experience working within an ISO13485 regulated environment.
- Knowledge of multiplex qPCR assay development.
- Experience within the biotechnology or molecular diagnostics industry.
