Salary:

  • Research Associate: £36,636 to £46,049 per annum, pro rata
  • Research Assistant: £33,951 to £35,608 per annum, pro rata

Closing Date: 16 July 2026

About the Role

We are launching a new opportunity for a research associate (Educator Access) within the School of History, Classics and Archaeology, focusing on the Transforming Access to Mediterranean Cultural Heritage Science Collections project.

You will collaborate with a research team across Newcastle University (in partnership with the British School at Athens, British Institute at Ankara, and British School at Rome), which has developed an innovative heritage science collections management system for digitising and sharing previously inaccessible datasets. Your role will play a key part in advancing the second phase of this project, which aims to expand institutional access to digital humanities data via a user-friendly online platform.

This part-time (0.67FTE, 25 hours/week) role will:

  • Facilitate adoption of the Transforming Access infrastructure by UK schools, aligning with the upcoming machine-readable national curriculum (spring 2027).
  • Work with an IT Lead to develop educational tools for teachers/students.
  • Assist the Project Lead & Manager in strategic collaborations with educators, delivering flagship teaching resources, and contributing to grant applications for future funding.
  • Collaborate with schools to maximise the impact and accessibility of online heritage science collections for primary/secondary education.

The position is fixed-term (until 31 March 2027), with a start date of 1 September 2026 or as soon as possible thereafter. Discussions about flexible/hybrid working arrangements are encouraged.

Research Assistant

  • Collect, analyse, and interpret research data, ensuring accurate conclusions.
  • Coordinate research tasks, solve problems, and contribute to project planning.
  • Present progress/deliverables to Principal Investigators or project oversight groups.
  • Write up research findings in reports, papers, or publications.
  • Utilise appropriate research resources (e.g., specialist equipment and tools).

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
