About Us

We are committed to equality, diversity, and inclusion, creating a community where colleagues feel respected and valued. We aim to reflect the diversity of our students and communities, and to strengthen our university through collaboration and diverse perspectives, across all roles at the University.

About the Role

We are seeking a self-motivated and experienced research assistant to join the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health Research (CAMHR) at the University of Hull on a fixed-term contract for 3 years.

About CAMHR

CAMHR is a National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Mental Health Research Group comprised of a highly experienced consortium of researchers. The successful candidate will become part of a larger interdisciplinary team of researchers investigating addiction and mental health conditions. Under the leadership of Professor Thomas Phillips, Professor of Nursing in Addiction, and Professor Judith Cohen, Director of Hull Health Trials Unit, the research team has secured a five-year award, supported by partners at the University of York and King’s College London, to develop addiction and mental health research based at the University of Hull.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work closely with health and social care providers, patients, and the public.
  • Provide support to Theme 3, with flexible support to the other Themes as required.
  • Define the needs of those experiencing alcohol-related cognitive impairment (ARCI).
  • Recruit participants from acute hospital settings and follow participants up over two time points in the community.
  • Work with clinical teams within the hospital to identify and approach patients with an alcohol use disorder, describe the study to patients, and take informed consent.
  • Collect data, including validated measures relating to cognition, alcohol consumption, alcohol problems, physical and mental health, quality of life, and service use.
  • Coordinate follow-up appointments and travel to meet with participants in a range of community settings to collect data, including a computerized neuropsychological battery.
  • Meet regularly with the wider team and contribute to regulatory approvals and modifications, monitoring, governance processes, and report writing.
  • Support the Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement Coordinators to develop and deliver stakeholder networks and lived experience advisory groups.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
