Salary: £33,002-£35,608
Reference: RE50394
Closing date: 11 August 2026

The Mitchell Group at the Cambridge Early Cancer Institute is seeking a highly motivated Research Assistant with a background in computational biology to join our team working on kidney cancer.

Purpose of the role

This position sits within a large collaborative project investigating genome evolution across a large cohort of kidney cancer patients, integrating whole-genome sequencing, transcriptomic, epigenomic, and clinical data. The successful candidate will lead the curation, analysis, and integration of large-scale genomic datasets to reveal the molecular drivers of kidney tumour progression.

Key responsibilities

  • Curate and process large-scale genomic datasets, including WGS, transcriptomic, and epigenomic data (to include single cell and spatial technologies)
  • Learn, develop, and apply cutting-edge computational approaches for analysing high-throughput sequencing data
  • Produce clear, informative data visualisations and communicate findings effectively within the team
  • Maintain version-controlled, well-documented, reproducible analysis pipelines
  • Collaborate on and support ongoing projects within the Mitchell Group

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
