Role Description
The Research Assistant or Associate in Life Cycle Assessment is a full-time, on-site role based in the Tyneside Area. The role involves:
- Designing and conducting life cycle assessment (LCA) studies on products, processes, or systems
- Data collection, data management, and analysis using established LCA methodologies and tools
- Contributing to research projects by reviewing scientific literature, developing models, interpreting results, and preparing reports and publications

- Collaborating with academic staff and project partners
- Presenting findings at meetings and seminars
- Supporting the preparation of grant applications and project documentation
- Assisting in the supervision of students
- Contributing to teaching or workshops related to sustainability and environmental assessment
Qualifications
- Strong foundation in environmental science, engineering, sustainability, or a related discipline, with knowledge of life cycle assessment principles and methods
- Experience with quantitative analysis, data handling, and use of LCA or environmental modeling software (e.g., SimaPro, GaBi, OpenLCA) and relevant databases
- Research skills, including literature review, experimental or modeling design, and critical evaluation of environmental impacts and trade-offs
- Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare technical reports, academic papers, and presentations for diverse audiences
- Collaborative working skills, including the ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams and engage with external partners and stakeholders
- Organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and maintain accurate documentation
- Relevant degree at undergraduate or postgraduate level (e.g., BSc/MSc/PhD) in a suitable field; experience in LCA applied to energy, infrastructure, or environmental systems is an advantage
- Interest in sustainability, climate change, and environmental policy, with a commitment to responsible research practices and continuous professional development
