The Department of English invites applications for a Research Associate position:

POSITION SUMMARY

The Department of English at McGill University is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Research Associate to support research activities in drama and theatre studies. The successful candidate must hold a PhD in Theatre Studies and have expertise in drama and theatre in Quebec and Canada. The position requires fluency in both French and English, as well as experience in drama publishing and research data management. The successful candidate will report directly to Prof Erin Hurley (Department of English).

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Translate the project’s conceptual questions into practical categories for record creation, particularly around publishability, expanded publication, archival traces, and future case-study/workshop selection.
  • Develop fields/tags for image-based, movement-based, devised, intermedial, land-based, research-creation, and media-rich publication traces.
  • Collaborate with research partner institutions to develop and refine identity/prosopographic tagging protocols.
  • Co-lead archival and source research and maintain a case-study watchlist for works whose publication histories are atypical, underdocumented, intermedial, movement/image-based, devised, Indigenous-language, or otherwise complex.
  • Draft and maintain the Research Assistant manual.

SOMMAIRE DU POSTE

Le Département d’anglais de l’Université McGill est à la recherche d’un(e) associé(e) de recherche hautement motivé(e) et qualifié(e) afin de soutenir les activités de recherche en études théâtrales et dramatiques. La personne retenue doit détenir un doctorat en études théâtrales et démontrer une expertise en théâtre et en dramaturgie au Québec et au Canada. Le poste exige une maîtrise du français et de l’anglais, ainsi qu’une expérience en publication dans le domaine théâtral et en gestion des données de recherche. Le candidat retenu relèvera directement de la professeure Erin Hurley (Département d’anglais).

RESPONSABILITÉS

  • Traduire les questions conceptuelles du projet en catégories pratiques pour la création de notices, notamment en ce qui concerne la possibilité de publication, la publication élargie, les traces archivistiques et la sélection future d’études de cas ou d’ateliers.
  • Développer des champs/étiquettes pour les traces de publication basées sur l’image, le mouvement, la création collective, l’intermédialité, les approches liées au territoire, la recherche-création et les publications enrichies par des médias numériques.
  • Collaborer avec les partenaires de recherche afin de développer et de perfectionner les protocoles d’étiquetage liés à l’identité et à la prosopographie.
  • Co-diriger la recherche archivistique et documentaire, et maintenir une liste de suivi d’études de cas pour des œuvres dont les historiques de publication sont atypiques, peu documentés, intermédiaux, fondés sur le mouvement ou l’image, issus de la création collective, en langue autochtone ou autrement complexes.
  • Rédiger et maintenir le manuel de l’assistant(e) de recherche.
