Research Engineer

About the role In this role, you will contribute end-to-end to the development of our next generation of Agentic AI Agents, helping deliver features safely and effectively to our customers. These agents power two-way communication experiences within Synthesia using conversational AI technologies. Your work will sit at the intersection of user experience, infrastructure, and machine learning. You’ll contribute across infrastructure development, prompt engineering, and direct interaction with large language models (LLMs). You will take ownership of projects that may span several months, breaking down complex initiatives into smaller deliverables that can be shipped, validated, and improved iteratively. Working closely with the Product Manager assigned to your area, you’ll contribute ideas, focus on solving meaningful business problems, and help shape the future direction of the product. You’ll also be responsible for measuring the impact of your work by leveraging established data pipelines and analytics frameworks, using insights to refine solutions and align outcomes with business objectives. Additionally, you’ll help influence the longer-term direction of the team, ensuring we continue building the engineering capabilities required to address future challenges over the next 6–12 months.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
