About Rivan Industries
Rivan Industries (Rivan.com) is a synthetic fuel company designed to decarbonise heavy industry. Our mission is clear: make synthetic fuel cheaper than fossil fuels and sustain life on earth by keeping the CO₂ locked underground.
We specialise in designing and manufacturing modular synthetic fuel plants comprising:
- A Direct Air Capture (DAC) system
- An Alkaline Electrolyser
- A Sabatier Reactor
We integrate these components with off-grid DC solar and connect to the European gas-grid. Below is our entire business plan.
Recently, we’ve deployed the UK’s largest synthetic fuel plant and aim to scale this operation by 1000x in the next two years.
The Challenge
Rivan is currently bottlenecked by experimental throughput and the need for deeper insights into our systems.
Your Role
This is not just another experimenter role—it’s about strategically driving progress. You’ll decide what to test, how to test it, and how to improve our entire system based on evidence.
Key Responsibilities
- Own the entire experimental lifecycle:
- Design, build, and operate lab and bench-scale rigs
- Plan and execute experimental campaigns to answer critical engineering questions
- Debug system issues related to rigs, instrumentation, and data quality
- Improve testing methods to enhance reliability, reproducibility, and throughput

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
