KRI is inviting applications for Research Fellows interested in safe and reliable AI for mission-critical systems, with particular attention to space AI, onboard autonomy, autonomous systems, and high-consequence operations.
This is a voluntary, unpaid research affiliation. It is designed for researchers, engineers, PhD students, independent scholars, and practitioners who want to develop a focused research idea with KRI.
Fellows may propose their own research topic or shape one with KRI. The strongest proposals will combine practical work with research writing, for example a small prototype, codebase, dataset analysis, evaluation method, simulation, or technical experiment leading to a short paper, technical note, framework, or public briefing.

The role is flexible and remote. There are no fixed hours. A typical project should be scoped to 6 to 12 weeks, with the final commitment agreed around the Fellow's availability and proposed research direction. UK-based applicants are preferred, but remote applicants may be considered where there is a strong fit.
