Research Fellow in Membrane Biophysics

About The Role

We are inviting applications for a Research Fellow in Membrane Biophysics to join the laboratory of Professor Satyajit Mayor at the Centre for Mechanochemical Cell Biology, University of Warwick.

Informal queries may be directed to Professor Satyajit Mayor via Satyajit.Mayor@warwick.ac.uk.

You will work collaboratively within the Mayor laboratory at Warwick Medical School to study the crosstalk between proteins and membrane lipid organisation using interdisciplinary methods in cell biology, biochemistry, synthetic biology, imaging, and biophysics.

The research focus extends beyond basic biology by advancing theoretical and experimental approaches for understanding non-equilibrium processes in living cell membranes. This project is a collaboration between:

  • Jay Groves, Single-Molecule Biophysicist (Department of Chemistry, UC Berkeley)
  • Madan Rao, Soft-Matter Physicist (National Centre for Biological Sciences, Bangalore, India)

Together, they aim to investigate the underlying mechanisms between proteins and lipids across health and disease.

About You

We are seeking a highly motivated Research Fellow with:

Core Qualifications

  • An honours degree (or equivalent) in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, or related field
  • PhD (or near completion)
  • Hands-on laboratory experience in experimental biology, particularly in membrane biophysics or single-molecule biophysics
  • Technical proficiencies:
    • Coding skills and practical experience in computer simulation packages (e.g., molecular dynamics, polymer/network modelling)
  • Strong research interests in membrane dynamics and/or biophysical experimentation

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
