Job Opportunity: Scientist in Precision Medicines Research

We are seeking a highly motivated scientist to join an exciting international research programme developing the next generation of precision medicines. Based at the University of Southampton, you will be part of the Horizon Europe-funded Doctoral Network ON-TRACT, a multidisciplinary collaboration bringing together leading academic, industrial, and clinical partners across Europe.

About the Role

Modified oligonucleotides (ONs) are emerging as a powerful new class of therapeutics for personalised medicine. Through ON-TRACT, we are developing innovative platform technologies that combine the design and synthesis of modified ONs with advanced targeting strategies and applications in lung cancer, B-cell malignancies, and chronic inflammatory diseases.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and synthesise novel DNA constructs and chemical modifiers that selectively target cancer cells and form bioactive secondary structures.
  • Collaborate closely with partners across the network to develop conjugation strategies, evaluate biological activity, and deliver high-quality materials for studies performed in laboratories throughout Europe.
  • Support the administration and coordination of the ON-TRACT network, including helping to organise meetings, contribute to reporting activities, facilitate communication between partners, and support the successful delivery of project objectives.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
