Research Nurse I
Turn Your First Years on the Ward into a New Career Path
At Fortrea’s Early Clinical Research Unit in Drapers Yard, Leeds, you can channel your hard-earned experience into a new role—supporting the development of new medical treatments while continuing to make a direct impact on patient care.
You will work in our modern 65,000 ft², 100-bed clinic, just 7 minutes from the train station. It is here where life-saving medicines begin their journey.
Become part of early steps in research, as a nurse, where you will shape new medical treatments from their earliest phases.
What You Will Do
- Deliver safe, high-quality care to clinical trial participants.
- Work autonomously to carry out procedures such as:
- Cannulation
- Bloods
- ECGs
- Observations
- Medicines administration
- Monitor participant wellbeing and document any adverse events.
- Obtain informed consent and guide participants through study procedures.
- Record accurate data in electronic systems to support study quality.
- Learn how research studies are planned and conducted.
- Develop your skills until you are responsible for your own studies.

What You Bring
- NMC-registered nurse with experience in a fast-paced ward environment.
- Ideal candidates include experience in A&E, surgery, oncology, or a similar role.
- Consistently aligned with a Band 5 nurse who has progressed beyond the newly qualified stage.
- Honed confidence working independently, verifying core clinical procedures via hands-on ward experience rather than solely training-based exposure.
- A genuine interest in clinical research and how new medicines are developed.
- Comfort using electronic health records and clinical systems.
- Must hold existing right-to-work status in the UK (visa sponsorship is not available).
