Join the Insights team, a collaborative team based across the Careers Service and Development and Alumni, as a Research Project Intern. You will conduct longitudinal research to evidence the impact of the Insights Programme since its inception in 2017/18 on student participants, alumni hosts and associated organisations, as well as the University. The goal is to understand and celebrate both the short- and long-term impact, thus informing the case for continued investment. You will gain experience of project management, research, communication and skills in writing case studies and reports.
The post holder will report to, and be supported by, the Insights Project Managers, Kristin Sargeant and Eilidh Steele, and the wider Insights Team.
The post is part-time for 6 months, 7 hours per week, ideally over one day, however we are open to considering other patterns of work. The role will be based on-campus.
Your skills and attributes for success:
- A current University of Edinburgh PhD student.
- Good organisational and time management skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with a wide range of stakeholders including senior volunteers, donors and colleagues
- Proficient professional communication skills (oral and written) and ability to conduct informational interviews effectively.
- Experience of working in a team to deliver a project.
- Previous experience with statistical analysis software/tools for data analysis
- Working knowledge of Office 365 suite and project management software.

Employ.ed for PhDs Programme
The Employ.ed for PhDs [https://www.ed.ac.uk/careers/students/postgraduates/phd-students/build-experience/employed-for-phds] programme offers work experience designed to enhance your professional skills. It will also help widen your professional network and provide an insight into a different workplace, discipline or industry. As an Employ.ed for PhDs intern, you will also receive tailored developmental support from the Careers Service to help you make the most of your internship.
The University will employ full-time PGR students for no more than an average of 9 hours per week across the academic year (as per its policy [https://www.ed.ac.uk/academic-services/policies-regulations/research-students/tutors-demonstrators/9-hour]), and you must make sure any employment complies with any visa or funding conditions you may have.
Should you be successful, you will require written confirmation from your academic supervisor that you can undertake the internship. We recommend that students discuss the internship with their supervisor, as well as with their employer, before applying.
