Research Scientist - In Vivo

Loughborough, Leicestershire

Permanent | Full-Time

An established preclinical research organisation is looking for an experienced Research Scientist to join its In Vivo team in Loughborough.

This role is suited to someone with proven hands-on in vivo experience who is confident carrying out regulated preclinical procedures and is looking to further develop their career within a fast-paced drug discovery environment.

The Role

Working within a multidisciplinary scientific team, you will perform a broad range of in vivo procedures, generate high-quality scientific data, and support the successful delivery of preclinical studies for both client and internal research programmes. You'll also contribute to maintaining the highest standards of animal welfare, support junior colleagues where appropriate, and help drive continuous improvements across the facility.

Responsibilities

  • Perform a broad range of in vivo procedures, including dosing, clinical observations, tissue collection and surgical techniques.
  • Deliver high-quality experimental work across preclinical research studies, including oncology models where applicable.
  • Monitor animal health and welfare, ensuring all procedures comply with UK legislation and best practice.
  • Produce accurate scientific records and provide reliable data to Study Directors and project teams.
  • Support the training and mentoring of junior team members where appropriate.
  • Contribute to the review and improvement of SOPs, quality systems and laboratory processes.
  • Work collaboratively with scientific and technical teams to ensure studies are delivered efficiently and to a high standard.
  • Promote a strong culture of animal welfare, scientific excellence and continuous improvement.

About You

  • Previous hands-on experience working in an in vivo research environment (essential).
  • Practical experience performing regulated in vivo procedures using rodent models.
  • A UK Home Office Personal Licence (Modules A-C) or equivalent practical experience.
  • Experience of animal handling, dosing, welfare assessments, sample collection and surgical procedures.
  • A sound understanding of the Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act (ASPA) and the principles of the 3Rs.

Applicants must have previous in vivo research experience and the right to work in the UK. Unfortunately, sponsorship is not available for this position.
