Research Software Engineer

Research Engineer

One of our clients is looking for a Research Software Engineer in London, with 3 days per week office-based duty at Kings Cross.

Job Title and Location

Research Engineer Location: Kings Cross, London (3 days to office) Duration: 6 months – extensions possible


Responsibilities

  • Carry out cutting-edge research to advance science and technology of machine learning systems.
  • Design methods, tools, and infrastructure to further state-of-the-art large language models.
  • Collaborate with researchers and cross-functional partners through:
    • Communication of research plans, progress, and results.
    • Suggesting, collecting, and synthesizing requirements.
    • Creating an effective feature roadmap.
  • Co-develop code deliverables alongside the engineering team.
  • Publish research results and contribute to Meta product development.

Minimum Qualifications

Core experience in:

  • 2+ years of hands-on experience in one or more of the following:
    • Machine learning, recommendation systems, pattern recognition, data mining, or AI.
    • Scalable machine learning model development (e.g., programmatically querying LLMs and post-training via APIs).
  • Python programming proficiency + PyTorch/other frameworks implementation.
  • Experience engineering software pipelines for large-scale AI models/datasets.
  • Ability to translate technical insights into business recommendations.

Academic Background

  • Bachelor’s degree in:
    • Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical discipline,
    • or equivalent practical experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Direct experience in generative AI and LLM research.
  • PhD or research-focused Master’s degree in machine learning-related fields.
