About the Role
This role will be based on the university campus with scope for it to be undertaken in a hybrid manner. We are also open to discussing flexible working arrangements.
Are you customer-focused and excited about delivering an outstanding service? Do you have extensive experience of working in a busy office environment within a research support or a finance role? Do you want to join a team that is committed to supporting the strategic objectives and research culture of the Faculty of Engineering and Physical Sciences?
We are looking for a professional and proactive individual to provide high-quality, customer-focused, pre-award research support to our Faculty Research Office (FRO). You will work closely with the Senior Research Support Administrator (Pre-Award) and Principal Investigators to support costing of projects whilst following University and Funders’ rules and regulations. You will be part of the University's Research Operations service, but will be deployed to the Faculty of Engineering and Physical Sciences and will report to the Senior Research Support Administrator (Pre-Award). You will have substantial experience of working in a research finance support role, be an excellent communicator, and be able to build strong networks. You will have strong problem-solving and organizational skills, with the ability to work effectively to tight deadlines.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
