About the Role
The University of Leicester is seeking a Research Technician to join the Leicester Cancer Research Centre within the Division of Cancer Sciences.
This fixed-term, full-time position (job share considered) is funded by Cancer Research UK and will support the delivery of key grant milestones for the multicentre phase 2/3 COLO-PREVENT clinical trial. This recruits high-risk patients through the NHS Bowel Cancer Screening Programme, investigating whether repurposed drugs or dietary agents may help prevent colorectal polyp development.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate, verify, log, and store clinical samples from up to 60 trial sites across England and Wales, ensuring full regulatory compliance.
- Work closely with the Principal Investigator, Trial Manager, and wider trial teams to provide essential laboratory and sample support.
- Contribute to audit readiness and assist with:
- Regulatory documentation
- Ethics submissions
- Reporting
- Operate within a quality-managed clinical research environment, adhering to Good Clinical Practice (GCP), health & safety, and human tissue governance standards.

About You
Essential Qualifications & Experience
- Technical or scientific education to ONC/NVQ Level 3 or equivalent, or applicable experience in:
- Clinical trial or research settings
- Human sample handling in a quality-managed environment
- Proficiency in:
- Regulatory requirements (e.g., Good Clinical Practice (GCP), health & safety, human tissue governance)
- Written & verbal communication
- IT skills
- Independent and multidisciplinary teamwork
- Ability to:
- Manage competing priorities
- Maintain high accuracy and compliance
Desirable Skills
- Experience with regulatory documentation, ethics submissions, or audit processes in research environments
- Familiarity with NHS or clinical sample databases
