Responsibilities
Bartlett Tree Research Laboratory, Reading UK, is hiring a full-time Research Technician to help manage applied research trials addressing tree and shrub health. Our studies cover multiple subject areas, including plant physiology, plant pathology, entomology, and horticulture. Successful applicants will have the opportunity to develop skills in these and other applicable areas. Our laboratory is based on a brand new 50-acre research facility, just to the south of Reading. Our small team covers the UK and Ireland working alongside a larger research team in the US & Canada.

The applied research conducted at the lab drives the management of plant stresses, pests, and diseases carried out by Bartlett Tree Experts arborists and plant health care specialists on residential and commercial properties in the UK and beyond. The lab team regularly interact internally with Bartlett Tree Experts and the wider industry to share knowledge and research findings, informally and formally, via multiple formats.
We are looking for practical and pragmatic candidates that enjoy applied research, working outdoors, and have good problem-solving skills. Applications are welcomed from individuals with industry experience in arboriculture/horticulture/plant health care and/or a university-level biology background, especially plant biology.

Qualifications
We are looking for practical and pragmatic candidates that enjoy connecting applied research to real world applications and have good problem-solving skills.
Ideal candidates will have:
- A full driver’s licence - essential
- Good communication skills
- Ability to address a range of audiences
- Proficiencies in data collection (inc Excel), handling and statistics, plant biology and plant cultivation
- PA1 and PA6 qualifications - preferable
- Knowledge of molecular techniques and plant diagnostic skills - preferable
