Resident Doctor Cardiothoracic Surgeon Location: London, The Portland’s Hospital, HCA Healthcare. Hours: Full or Part Time Hours available Shifts: Days: 07:45am – 08:15pm, Nights: 07:45pm – 08:15am (12.5 Hour Shifts) The 4-week rota will include a fair and flexible mix of day and night shifts, including weekdays and weekends. Contract Type: Permanent Salary: Competitive (DOE). Benefits: Full details below. As a Cardiothoracic Resident Doctor at The Portland Hospital you will provide medical cover for paediatric cardiothoracic surgical patients, working within their competence and scope of practice to support safe, timely and effective patient care. The role includes assessment and management of patients across the cardiothoracic pathway, including planned and emergency admissions, pre-operative preparation, post-operative review, and escalation of clinical concerns to the responsible consultant or relevant specialist team. What you will do: Reviewing and managing paediatric cardiothoracic surgical patients in collaboration with the consultant cardiothoracic surgeon, PICU team, anaesthetic team, nursing teams and wider multidisciplinary team. Supporting the day-to-day medical care of patients requiring cardiothoracic input, including ward-based and intensive care settings as appropriate. Responding to clinical deterioration and cardiothoracic emergencies within the resident doctor’s competence, including timely escalation to senior decision-makers. Prescribing medication in line with HCA Healthcare UK policy, local guidelines, BNF/BNFc guidance and individual competence. Completing accurate, timely and appropriate clinical documentation, including ward round entries, reviews, escalation discussions and handover documentation. Providing clear verbal and written handover to incoming resident doctors and relevant clinical teams at each shift change. Working collaboratively with consultants, nursing colleagues, pharmacy, PICU, paediatrics and allied health professionals to maintain high standards of patient care. Participating in a rota that includes day, night and weekend shifts. Maintaining professional standards, acting within HCA Healthcare UK policies and procedures, and escalating any patient safety concerns appropriately. What You Will Bring: GMC Registration and License to Practice in the UK Completed Foundation Years training and additionally at minimum Core Cardiothoracic Surgical Training (ST5+) / or equivalent experience. Post Grad Qualifications, MRCS or Equivalent. Strong communication skills and a commitment to delivering exceptional patient-centred care within a high-performing private healthcare environment.
