Role: Resident Doctor Paediatrics/Neonatal

Town / Site: London, The Portland Hospital, 205-209 Great Portland St, W1W 5AH

Part time: 24 Hrs Per Week

Shifts: Day shifts begin at 07:45am and end at 20:15pm / or Night shifts begin at 19:45pm and end at 08:15am.

Permanent: There are opportunities for additional shifts, by joining our Bank.

The Portland Hospital is part of HCA Healthcare UK and is one of the leading private hospitals in the UK specialising in women’s and children’s healthcare. Located in central London. Our private hospital provides a full range of maternity and women’s health services, including antenatal care, labour and delivery, fetal medicine, minimally invasive gynaecological surgery, fertility support, and postnatal care. It is supported by advanced diagnostic facilities, specialist theatres, neonatal intensive care services, and a multidisciplinary clinical team committed to delivering high standards of patient-centred care.

At The Portland Hospital, you'll work alongside some of the UK's leading paediatric and neonatal specialists in an environment dedicated exclusively to the care of children and families. You'll gain exposure to a diverse and complex patient population, advanced clinical facilities, and a culture that supports professional development, collaboration and excellence in patient care.

What You'll Do:

  • Under the direction of the names Consultant you will; diagnose and manage paediatric patients, including post-operative paediatric surgical patients, under the guidance of consultant paediatricians and neonatologists.
  • Act as the resident doctor for the Paediatric Inpatient Ward, delivering safe, responsive and patient-centred care throughout your shift.
  • Recognise and respond promptly to clinical deterioration, escalating concerns appropriately to the named consultant, PICU team and wider multidisciplinary team.
  • Perform clinical procedures including venepuncture, cannulation, lumbar puncture, catheterisation and other procedures appropriate.
  • Collaborate closely with consultants, nurses, allied health professionals and specialist teams to ensure seamless patient care and excellent clinical outcomes, you may be asked to be involved in audits, assessments, to contribute to a culture of clinical excellence, patient safety and continuous improvement.
  • Provide support to the Level 2 Neonatal Unit when required, including neonatal resuscitation.

What You Will Bring

  • Full GMC registration with a licence to practise in the UK.
  • Completion of Foundation Training, with ideally a minimum of four additional years' experience in Paediatrics or recognised Specialist Training.
  • Demonstrable experience managing a broad range of paediatric and neonatal presentations, including acutely unwell and post-operative paediatric patients.
  • Confidence and competence in leading paediatric resuscitation scenarios and supporting neonatal resuscitation when required.
  • MRCPCH (or equivalent postgraduate qualification) is desirable.
  • Excellent communication, clinical decision-making and multidisciplinary team-working skills.
  • A commitment to delivering outstanding patient and family-centred care within a high-performing clinical environment.
  • A proactive and collaborative approach, with a passion for sharing best practice and continually enhancing the patient experience.
