We have an excellent opportunity for an experienced Resident Engineer (Electrical Bias) to join our on-site team at The Bentall Centre, a major retail and leisure destination in Kingston upon Thames.
This is a resident role supporting a busy, customer-facing environment, requiring a proactive and professional engineer to ensure the safe, efficient operation of building services.
About The Role
As the Resident Engineer, you will be responsible for carrying out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance across electrical systems and associated building services, as well as responding to site engineering issues and emergencies.
You will take ownership of the day-to-day M&E activity on site, working closely with the client, helpdesk and wider WPS team. Strong time management, communication skills and a solutions-focused approach are essential in this fast-paced retail environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out PPM and reactive maintenance across electrical and building services systems
- Respond promptly to site engineering faults and emergencies
- Manage and prioritise daily M&E tasks to ensure continuity of service
- Use the client's CAFM system to accept and manage jobs, ensuring SLAs are met and updates are provided
- Supervise subcontractors, ensuring RAMS are reviewed, approved and adhered to
- Liaise professionally with the client's site management team, retailers, helpdesk and colleagues
- Ensure all works comply with company policies, statutory requirements and health & safety standards
- Promote and uphold Wates' Zero Harm culture at all times
- Undertake basic fire door inspections (training provided)
- Carry out basic plumbing and fabric tasks where required

About You
- Electrically qualified with C&G Level 3 and 18th Edition
- Experience working in a resident / site-based engineering role, ideally within retail, commercial or FM environments
- Basic knowledge of plumbing and fabric works is advantageous
- Confident working independently, multitasking and meeting deadlines
- Strong problem-solving skills with a proactive attitude
- Effective communicator, comfortable liaising with clients and stakeholders
- IT literate, with experience using Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook
- CAFM experience desirable but not essential – full training provided
