Resident Support Assistant

Resident Support Assistant

Hours: 32 hours per week Hourly rate: £13.48 per hour Salary Range: £28,038.40 annually Contract Type: Part-time

Job Purpose

The purpose of the Resident Support Assistant role is to provide high-quality housekeeping, catering, and hospitality services within our care home. This role is not a care or nursing position. Instead, it focuses on creating a comfortable, welcoming environment for residents, delivering excellent customer service, and working collaboratively within a "one-team" approach to enhance the overall resident experience.


Key Responsibilities

Service Delivery

  • Provide a holistic, person-centred service to ensure residents’ hospitality, housekeeping, and catering needs and preferences are met in collaboration with other teams.
  • Maintain a high standard of hygiene, adhering to health and safety, infection control, food hygiene legislation, and St Monica Trust’s policies and procedures.
  • Perform regular room checks, ensure communal spaces (including laundry sorting) remain comfortable, clean, and hygienic.
  • Meet residents’ unique needs and collaborate with colleagues across care teams.
  • Keep lounge areas (if applicable) prepared for use as a coffee and bar venue for residents and visitors.

Skills & Experience

Communication

  • Write concise notes/messages with strong numeracy, literacy, and verbal skills.
  • Adapt communication for residents with differing abilities.
  • Influence and delegate effectively; follow instructions and procedures.
  • Demonstrate strong customer service skills across multiple communication methods.

Knowledge & Qualifications

Essential

  • Proficiency in IT and standard office software (Microsoft Word, Outlook/email, file management).
  • Basic food preparation and cleaning techniques.
  • Understanding of older adult care and associated issues.
  • Safeguarding of health and safety principles.
  • Customer service essentials.

Desirable

  • Level 1 or 2 Food Hygiene qualification (or equivalent).
  • Level 2 Healthcare Cleaning certification.
  • General education up to GCSE (or equivalent).
  • Experience with Microsoft 365 or video conferencing (Zoom/Facetime).
  • Prior care setting work experience.
  • Training in safe moving and handling.
