Resident Welfare Officer
- Annual salary: up to £29,856.80
- Car allowance: £3,500
Location & Contract
- Location: Middlesbrough/ Stockton/ Hartlepool (field-based)
- Contract: Full-time, permanent
- Hours: 40 per week (Monday–Friday, 8.30 am–5 pm)
- Required start: On patch by 8.30 am
- Exception: Must participate in the "On-Call (OOH) rota — 1 week in 7 (Monday–Monday)
About The Role
Mears Housing Management is seeking a Resident Welfare Officer to support the delivery of a new service designed to help vulnerable individuals avoid homelessness and transition into settled accommodation.
This front-line role combines:
- Administrative
- Practical
- Pastoral responsibilities
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage your own diary and property portfolio
- Conduct property inspections
- Raise & follow up on work orders (repairs, including for void properties)
- Balance administrative tasks with direct support work
- Maintain regular contact with service users via:
- Face-to-face visits
- Telephone calls
- Encourage engagement with:
- Appointments
- Support services
- Support service users with:
- Health needs
- Financial matters
- Repair requests
- Move-on processes
- Assist with:
- Appointments
- Referrals (with fallback support provisions)
- Help secure appropriately sized accommodation
- Arrange food parcels and ensure access to essential resources
- Conduct needs assessments for:
- Individuals
- Families
- Develop support packages to promote independence
- Contribute to a team supporting vulnerable groups:
- Homelessness
- Drug misuse
- Mental health challenges
- Human trafficking survivors
- Individuals with offending histories
- Escalate incident reporting for any welfare concerns or potential safeguarding issues
- Clean void properties to accelerate occupancy

Role Criteria
Essential
- Demonstrable experience in a similar role within:
- Housing
- Support
- Welfare services
- Strong communication skills for:
- Clients
- Colleagues
- Ability to:

- Microsoft Office proficiency with general IT competence
- Willingness to:
- Work independently
- Drive initiative
- Knowledge of local support services/housing pathways

- Full UK driving licence (essential for travel between properties/appts.)
