Senior Care Assistant - Nights

Salary: £16/hour plus incentives

Hours: Full-time permanent contract (7pm–7am: 3 shifts in one week, 4 shifts in the next week) (Includes alternate weekends)

Location: South Moor Lodge Care Home, Walkeringham, DN10 4LD

Your role as a Senior Care Assistant will involve leading your shifts to ensure the highest standard of care. You’ll play a key part in promoting independence, dignity, and emotional wellbeing for our residents while leading by example.

About South Moor Lodge

Set in Walkeringham (5 miles west of Gainsborough), this 19th-century barn-turned-care-home fuses historical charm with modern facilities. It sits on two acres of landscaped grounds, providing personal and dementia care for 41 residents.


Role Responsibilities

As a Senior Care Assistant, your key duties include:

  • Providing highest-quality care across all aspects of daily living.
  • Promoting independence while maintaining dignity, choice, and respect.
  • Leading shifts to ensure excellence in care and team support.
  • Ensuring error-free medication rounds—responsible for consistent documentation and training team members.
  • Keeping charts and records accurate to prevent audit issues.
  • Upholding best practise (and challenging poor practice).
  • Conducting mandatory one-to-one meetings with care staff (every two months).
  • Investigating complaints as directed by the Home Manager.

To excel in this role, you should meet the following criteria:

  • Relevant qualification (e.g., registered Health and Social Care NVQ/Diploma Level 3 or equivalent).
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience as a Care Assistant in a residential/nursing home setting.
  • Adequate knowledge of person-centred care principles.
  • Awareness of vulnerable adult safeguarding, including spotting abuse signs and knowing reporting procedures.
  • Live within 30 minutes of the care home.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure.
  • Demonstrated leadership, communication, and emotional care skills.
  • Compassionate attitude with a positive, proactive mindset.
  • Strong time management and oral/written communication.
