Residential Child Care Worker

Residential Child Care Worker (Zero-Hour Contract) – Pebbles Care

Are you looking for a role that specialises in children’s residential care, can offer you flexible hours that fit around your other commitments, and can hold a full UK manual driving licence?

Pebbles Care is building a zero-hour workforce that will provide additional support for children and young people across a region or area.

Your Role and Responsibilities – Residential Child Care Worker

You will ensure that our children and young people are cared for in every aspect of their lives, including:

  • Keeping them safe from harm
  • Supporting their education
  • Cooking
  • Cleaning
  • Participating in fun activities

Key responsibilities include:

  • Supporting our care teams across several homes in the same area
  • Receiving a full induction, shadowing shifts, and in-depth training (including a full introduction to Therapeutic Parenting)
  • Covering as many shifts as possible – at least one shift every four weeks to maintain your role

What We Offer You

✅ Hourly rate: £13.13 – £13.94 per day hour, with an additional £80 sleep payment (depending on qualifications and training) ✅ Shift flexibility:

  • Cover 24-hour shifts (including sleepovers) or part-time daytime shifts
  • Paid annual leave accrues at a rate of 28 days (full-time equivalent) ✅ Employee referral bonus: £400 for every successful referral ✅ Specialised training: Full Therapeutic Parenting introduction ✅ Health & wellness benefits:

Essential Qualities

We’re looking for:

  • Highly responsible and accountable in safeguarding children and young people
  • A desire to pursue childcare qualifications and training
  • A nurturing and caring nature
  • Patience and resilience to form non-judgmental relationships
  • A supportive listener with excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Creative and eager to develop new skills
  • Proficient IT skills, including Microsoft packages
  • A full, valid UK manual driver’s licence (as all homes have their own manual vehicles)

Desirable Qualities

Experience valued but not required:

  • 1+ year’s experience working with children or young adults
  • SCQF Level 7 (Scotland) or Level 3 Diploma (England) relevant to Children and Young People’s Residential Workforce (or a willingness to progress towards this)
  • Familiarity with regulatory body codes (e.g., SSSC / Ofsted)
  • An existing PVG / DBS certificate or willingness to obtain one
