Residential Child Care Worker – Zero-Hour Contract
Are you looking for a role that specialises in children’s residential care, offers flexible hours, and requires a full UK manual driving licence?
At Pebbles Care, we’re building a zero-hour workforce to provide additional support for children and young people (aged 8–18) in need of therapeutic care across North England and Scotland. The Role: Residential Child Care Worker
Your core responsibilities will include:
- Holistic care – Supporting children and young people in all aspects of daily life, including:
- Health, safety, and wellbeing
- Education and learning (homework, tutoring, and engagement with schools)
- Household tasks (cooking, cleaning, tidying)
- Organising and leading fun activities (recreational, creative, and social)
- Cross-home support – Assisting care teams across multiple homes in the same region.
- Therapeutic approach – Working in line with Therapeutic Parenting principles to foster safe, nurturing relationships.
- Flexibility and commitment – Covering a mix of:
- Day shifts (part-time)
- Shift-based roles, including 24-hour live-ins / sleepovers (with £80 sleep allowance)
- Ensuring at least one shift every four weeks to maintain active roster placement.

What We Offer You
Competitive Pay & Financial Benefits
- Hourly rate: £13.13 – £13.94 (dependent on qualifications and training)
- Sleep shift payment: £80 per night for overnight duties.
- Paid annual leave: Pro-rated based on working hours (equivalent to 28 days for full-time workers).

Requirements
Essential:
- Passion for supporting vulnerable children and ensuring their safeguarding.
- Nurturing and patient personality – able to build non-judgmental trust.
- Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
- Proficient IT skills (Microsoft Office experience).
- Commitment to safeguarding policies and willingness to adhere to regulatory guidelines.
Desirable (but not mandatory):
- Experience working with children or young adults (preferably in a care setting).
- SCQF Level 7 or Level 3 Diploma in Children and Young People’s Residential Care (or a desire to progress towards it).
- Familiarity with SSSC / Ofsted Codes of Practice.
- Existing PVG / DBS check (we will cover the cost if you don’t have one).
