Residential Child Care Worker
Residential Child Care Worker – Zero-Hour Contract Role
Pebbles Care specialises in providing a flexible and supportive environment for children and young people. Are you looking for a role that:

We are building a zero-hour workforce to provide additional support for children and young people across North England and Scotland.
Your Role and Responsibilities
As a Residential Child Care Worker, you will:
- Ensure the care, safety, and well-being of children and young people in every aspect of their lives, including:
- Safeguarding from harm
- Supporting education
- Cooking and cleaning duties
- Organising and participating in fun activities
- Work across multiple homes in your assigned area, supporting care teams
- Receive a full induction, shadow shifts, and in-depth training, including:
- Introduction to Therapeutic Parenting
- Maintain Shift Availability:
- Regular communication regarding shift expectations
- Commitment to covering as many shifts as possible
- Employees are required to complete at least one shift every four weeks to remain active
What We Offer You
Competitive Pay and Working Conditions
- Hourly rate: £13.13 - £13.94 per day (£80 sleep payment, depending on qualifications/training)
- Shift flexibility: Part-time daytime shifts or 24-hour shifts including sleepovers
- Paid annual leave: Pro-rated for hours worked (equivalent to 28 days full-time)
- Employee referral bonus: Up to £400 for each successful referral

Essential Qualities
A successful applicant will have:
- Strong safeguarding awareness and responsibility in protecting children/youth.
- Commitment to child care development:
- Desire to pursue qualifications and training
- Nurturing and empathetic personality.
- Patience, resilience, and non-judgmental attitude to build trusting relationships.
- Active listening skills.
- Creativity and enthusiasm for fun/educational activities.
- Exceptional communication (verbal and written).
- Proficient IT skills, including Microsoft Office packages.
- Full, valid UK manual driving licence (all homes have their own cars).
Desirable Qualities
Productive experience would include:
- 1+ year working with children or young adults.
- Relevant qualification:
- SCQF Level 7 (Scotland) OR
- Level 3 Diploma (England) for Children and Young People’s Residential Care (or commitment to this pathway).
- Familiarity with:
- SSSC or Ofsted Codes of Practice.
- Active PVG/DBS certificate (or willingness to obtain one).
