Residential Child Care Worker – Zero-Hour Contract
About the Role
Are you looking for a role that specialises in children’s residential care, offers flexible hours that fit around your commitments, and requires a full UK manual driving licence?
Pebbles Care is building a Zero-Hour workforce to deliver additional support for children and young people across a region. As a Zero-Hour employee, you’ll benefit from:

- Role maintenance requirement: At least one shift every four weeks to remain in the role
Your Role & Responsibilities
As a Residential Child Care Worker within our care network, your core duties will include:
- Ensuring children and young people (8–18 years) are cared for holistically, covering:
- Safety and wellbeing (preventing harm)
- Education support
- Cooking and meal preparation
- Cleaning and maintenance
- Engagement in therapeutic and recreational activities
- Providing support across multiple homes in the same region
- Participating in:
- A full induction
- Shadow shifts for experience
- In-depth training—including an introduction to Therapeutic Parenting

Pay & Working Arrangements
- Pay range:
- £13.13–£13.94 per hour (day shifts)
- £80 per sleep payment (24-hour shifts) Based on qualifications and training
- Flexible shift options:
- Support staff for part-time / night shifts
- Cover overnight / sleepover shifts
- Accrued paid annual leave at a rate equating to 28 days’ leave for full-time hours worked
- Employee incentives:
- Referral fee of £400 for every successful hire
- Full induction in Therapeutic Parenting

Qualities We Look For
Essential
- Strong safeguarding awareness & accountability with children/young people
- Desire to pursue childcare qualifications and training
- Coward and supportive nature.
- Patience + resilience for building trusting relationships
- Active listening skills
- Creativity in active engagement (fun strategies)
- Excellent verbal + written communication
- IT proficiency (Microsoft Office, Google Apps)
Desirable
- 1+ year of experience working with children or young adults
- SCQF Level 7 (Scotland) / Level 3 Diploma (England) or commitment to studying the Children and Young People’s Residential workforce qualification
- Familiarity with SSSC/Ofsted Codes of Practice
- PVG/DBS certificate (will be covered by Pebbles)
Requirement: A full, valid UK manual driving licence (all homes utilise manual vehicles)
