Residential Childcare Worker
Location: Hawick, Scottish Borders
Salary: From £34,976 to £37,447 OTE (excluding time-and-a-half overtime)

Role Overview
Key Responsibilities:
- Shift Pattern: 2 days on, 3 days off (14-hour shifts with a 10-hour sleepover).
- Population: Support children and young people with complex needs, trauma backgrounds, and adverse life experiences.
- Care Philosophy: Provide safe, nurturing, therapeutic environments to facilitate growth and positive outcomes.
- Adult Support: Supervision required for young people up to 21 years old.

Ideal Candidate Attributes
To thrive in this role, you will:

Have previous experience in residential children’s homes.

Earn or be certified in SVQ Level 3 and HNC (Social Care) or equivalent qualifications.

Exhibit exemplary communication and collaborative skills.

Hold safeguarding/child protection knowledge.
-
Demonstrate the ability to work shifts, weekends, sleepovers, and long hours.

Hold a full UK manual driving licence, with the capability of operating company vehicles.
-
Soft Skills: Therapeutic approach, flexibility, resilience, and understanding of trauma-informed care.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Daily Care: Provide support within agency policies and practice frameworks.
- Assessment & Development: Contribute to support plans and behavioural support programs.
- Key Person Role: Attend planning/review meetings; oversee development outcomes.
- Recording: Maintain accurate documentation of progress and incidents.
- Safety Protocols: Complete health/safety audits; uphold secure and hygienic environments.
- Training Compliance: Complete mandatory inductions; participate in ongoing training (e.g., crisis intervention).
- Professional Boundaries: Promote structure, routine, and de-escalation techniques.
- Confidentiality: Adhere to SSSC codes of conduct and safeguarding duties.

Requirements
Minimum Eligibility:
✔ Proven Experience: In a residential children’s services or relevant setting.
✔ Legal Compliance:
- PVG (Protecting Vulnerable Groups) clearance and SSSC registration.
- Driving: Full manual licence (non-insurance restrictions for company vehicles).
✔ Availability: 24/7 shifts (including weekends/sleepovers).
✔ Certifications: SVQ Level 3 (social care) or equivalent; consider career training progression.
✔ Soft Skills: Safeguarding awareness; collaborative and adaptable mindset.
