Residential Child Care Worker (Driver) – Ref: CH03326
Location: Bluebells (Short Breaks)
Contract & Pay
- Type: Permanent
- Hours: Part-time, 22 hours per week
- Salary: £31,537 – £34,434 (pro-rata)
- Qualified starting salary: £32,597 (pro-rata)
- Unqualified starting salary: £31,537 (pro-rata)
- Unsociable hours payment: 5% including sleep-ins (salaries under review)
About the Role
Bluebells Short Breaks Service provides residential short breaks for children and young people (up to 18 years old) in Walsall, with a strong focus on care for those with additional needs.
We are seeking dedicated individuals to join our experienced team of residential childcare workers. This is an opportunity to work in a supportive environment, helping children and young people thrive while making a meaningful difference to their lives.
Key Responsibilities
- Work directly with children and young people, supporting all aspects of their care needs during short break stays.
- Develop and maintain meaningful relationships with children, young people, and their families.
- Contribute to positive developmental outcomes for young people.
- Uphold safeguarding policies and ensure robust practices in all interactions.
- May be required to undertake overnight shifts (sleep-in duties) on occasions.
- Commit to shifts across mornings, days, evenings, including school holidays and Public Bank Holidays.

What We’re Looking For
Essential Criteria
- Experience working with children – Either in a residential short breaks setting or another relevant role.
- Patient, nurturing attitude – Able to focus on detail and prioritise child welfare.
- Commitment to safeguarding – A clear, thorough approach to child protection.
- Flexibility & reliability – Able to adapt to varied routines and long operational hours.
- A full UK driving licence (essential due to role requirements).
Desirable Characteristics
- Energetic & creative – Bringing fun and positivity to build long-term relationships.
- Professional network awareness – Ability to engage constructively with parents, carers, and professionals.
- Resilience & empathy – Genuine passion for supporting young people.
Additional Requirements
- Must be aged 22 or older (as per government stipulations).
- Must hold or be willing to obtain an enhanced DBS clearance.
- Must declare any overseas stays (including work/study) and provide OCRC or SOGC if necessary for DBS.
- English language proficiency – Ability to communicate clearly and accurately in spoken English.

Working Hours & Schedule
- Operates Wednesday afternoons to Monday afternoons.
- Evening and overnight shifts will be undertaken as required.
- Continuous rotational shifts, including school term/holiday coverage.
