About The Role

Position Overview

A dynamic Residential Children’s Worker (RCW) role at Spire Lodge, Chesterfield, delivering short-break care for children aged 4–17 living with Derbyshire.

You’ll join a tight-knit team providing 24/7 care—supporting the social, emotional, educational, and practical needs of children within statutory and home regulations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver relationship-focused and psychologically informed care, tailoring support to individual children’s needs.
  • Monitor and safeguard children’s well-being in line with The Children Act, Quality Care Standards, and Children’s Homes (England) Regulations 2015.
  • Foster a happy, stable, and engaging environment where children feel safe, accepted, and able to progress.
  • Work collaboratively with social workers, families, and external agencies to ensure children receive the best possible service.
  • Exercise initiative in creating structured, enriching daily activities that meet children’s physical, emotional, and developmental needs.
  • Implement trauma-informed and sensory-aware approaches into daily practice.
  • Maintain accurate records of all interactions, incidents, and progress reviews as required.

Location & Hours

  • Spire Lodge, Chesterfield (full address: [not provided, but via website link])
  • Shift-based role covering 24-hour care (sleep-ins included).
  • Shifts from 7am–7pm (Grade 9) or 7pm–7am (enhanced rates).

Salary & Pay Structure (per hour)

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Must possess—or commit to completing within 2 years—one of the following:
    • Level 3 Children and Young People’s Workforce Diploma (England, 2015) (Social Care Pathway required), or
    • NVQ 3 in Caring for Children & Young People, plus additional training to meet equivalent requirements.
  • Experience or aptitude for psychologically informed care, with a focus on trauma, sensory processing, and relationship-building.
  • Driving licence and access to a vehicle is advantageous (enhanced travel expenses available).
  • Homestudy DV check or SLC (Secondary Level Check) clearance must be completed prior to appointment. An apply to print check, received as part of your application, will allow us to conduct checks in advance.
  • The position also requires the completion of our Pre-Employment Safeguarding Review (effective from 1 December 2025).
