Description

Full Time / 37 Hours Per Week /Fixed Term

Based in our children’s homes undertaking repairs, maintenance and health safety monitoring of the buildings. You’ll be supporting young people in the care of the Local Authority and those that have left care to develop their independence and DIY skills within the children’s homes or in the community in their independent accommodation.

You’ll work in a team of 15 to 25 staff offering care, guidance and support to children and young people who are in the care of the Local Authority. We are a growing service and are expanding from 6 to 8 homes over the next two years and we are looking for staff to support us with both our current homes and our upcoming projects.

Working at different locations including across the children’s homes service (all located within the city) and in the accommodation of young people when they leave care. Whilst you will usually work from Monday to Friday, you must be prepared to work outside normal hours when required.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Working with teams of residential staff and the Leaving Care Team, your duties will include, property repairs and maintenance, DIY, health and safety monitoring, including water temperature, fire safety checks, recording your findings and keeping records of these.
  • You’ll provide training in basic DIY tasks to young people and supporting them to set up their own independent accommodation in the community.
  • You will outsource work to contractors where necessary, overseeing and monitoring their work whilst on site.

What You’ll Need

  • You must be able to able to carry out building repairs, maintenance, painting and decorating to a reasonable standard.
  • You must have experience and ability to carry out property maintenance activity, including, electrical and plumbing repairs, maintaining tools and equipment, carry out moving and handling duties and design develop and adhere to work schedules.
  • You must have numeracy, literacy and IT skills sufficient to maintain electronic records, risk assessments and send reports to other departments of the council.
  • You must hold a full driving licence, have a vehicle for work purposes so you can travel to and work in different locations within the city.
  • This post is subject to an enhanced DBS and social care checks.
