About the Role
This role is ideal for:
- Experienced Residential Workers or Youth Workers
- Individuals with no previous experience who are looking to build a career in residential care
We are seeking determined, caring, and thoughtful people to become long-lasting, significant adults in a child’s life. Are you ready?
Selection Criteria
We are looking for someone who:
- Is 22 years of age or above (to meet Ofsted regulations)
- Is caring, compassionate, and able to build positive relationships with others
- Has a valid manual driving licence
- Has the ability to remain calm in challenging situations
Is Previous Experience Essential?
No—previous experience is not essential for this role. Our Skills to Care induction includes:
- 2 weeks of classroom-based training
- 1 week of shadow shifts

You will also be supported to achieve your Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare, achievable within 12 months. This will elevate you to a Level 3 qualified Residential Support Worker, furthering your ongoing development and career progression with Compass.
Responsibilities
Residential Support Worker Duties
In Compass Homes, we accept children as they are in a non-judgemental way. Your role focuses on assisting children in ways that:
- Allow them to experience childhood while building self-esteem and accepting themselves for growth into adulthood
- Ensure their journey into adulthood is well-supported and positive
Daily Support Includes:
- Facilitating children’s activities and appointments, supporting them across all aspects of their lives
- Ensuring health and wellbeing, with constant safeguarding vigilance
- Meeting diverse children and young people—some may need high supervision and support**
- Supporting the team* through domestic tasks such as:
- Cleaning
- Cooking
- Food shopping
- Creating timetables
- Managing paperwork
- Writing reports
