Residential Support Worker - children & young people

Job Title: Children’s Residential Support Worker - complex care

Location: Southampton

Salary: Starting from £14.05 per hour PLUS an additional £62.64 per sleep in

Hours: Full-time, 39 hours per week working a shift pattern which includes long days and sleep ins.

Personal Care Is Required As Part Of This Role.

Full UK Drivers licence is required


We are looking for a resilient, nurturing children's support worker to become part of our unique home, caring for young people who have complex medical needs, Learning disabilities and Autism and are wheelchair users. You would be the person to give encouragement and praise when needed, to be patient and understanding during times of crisis and to inspire them to grow and develop.

We want to create a safe haven where every child's potential shines bright, you'll be the beacon of hope, providing unwavering support to our young champions.

The role can be emotionally and physically challenging and you could be handling difficult situations BUT you could be the person to change a child's life for the better.

What do you need?

  • Experience in care such as adult LD, SEN education, medical or nursing care, elderly care or working with vulnerable people is essential
  • We want people who are naturally caring, flexible and resilient.
  • Passionate about supporting children to lead happy lives.
  • Physically able to lift and use hoists, manual handling is part of this job.
  • Great communication skills, positive and energetic.
  • Ability to remain calm during sometimes challenging situations.
  • Full UK Driving licence is beneficial.
  • You need to be able to work flexibly in caring for the children. This will include working shifts and sleep-ins

What does the job involve?

  • Be part of a caring team that provides a safe and loving home for children, led and supported by a registered manager.
  • Act as a professional parent, to give encouragement and praise.
  • Provide emotional and physical support to allow the children to reach their full potential in sometimes challenging situations
  • Provide medical support which includes physio routines, medication, peg feeding, moving and handling, hoists and lifting equipment.
  • Build friendships and trusting relationships
  • Help them to find pleasure in everyday tasks
  • Ensure a safe home environment, cleaning, laundry, cooking is part of the job.
