Role Overview As a Therapeutic Practitioner, you will collaborate between Therapeutic Services and Residential children’s homes, primarily supporting and guiding staff teams in therapeutic practice. At Compass Community, an independent therapeutic agency, you will work closely with Fostering, Residential Homes, and Education services, delivering care to nearly 2,000 children and young people.
Compass prides itself on addressing social, emotional, cognitive, and sensorial needs through its proven Assessing and Healing Complex Trauma (AHCT) approach, which has made a transformative impact on many young lives.
About the Role
You will:
- Play a key part in the assessment and healing of traumatised young people within our multi-disciplinary Therapeutic Service, working directly with the Residential Service.
- Have the opportunity to reflect and share practice across multiple regional teams to develop a cohesive therapeutic ethos.
- Train staff in therapeutic practices, fostering deeper understanding and working in therapeutic reflective groups with carers and managers.
- Facilitate the Social and Emotional Welfare (SEW) Assessment, supporting staff development and ensuring high standards in Professional Therapeutic Training.
- Help staff and carers recognise trauma’s impact on child development, promoting an anti-discriminatory, trauma-informed philosophy across Compass Children’s Homes.
- Align with Government legislation, regulations, and inspection standards, reinforcing Compass’ Vision and Values.
- Contribute to therapeutic community development within Community programmes (under guidance from the Royal College of Psychiatry where applicable).

Working Hours: 4 days (09:00–17:00) and one evening shift (12:00–20:00) per week.

Essential Criteria
- 2+ years’ hands-on experience in the children’s care sector.
- Strong collaboration skills with multi-disciplinary stakeholders.
- Deep understanding of complex trauma and its developmental impacts.
- Therapeutic qualifications/training (even if ongoing).
- Ability to teach and embed therapeutic theories in practice.
- Resilient, empathetic, and engaged character.
- Excellent verbal & written communication (driven by Level 5/A-Level English standard).
- Ability to travel for work 4+ times per year.
- Full driving licence.
- Experience in Learning Disabilities support (advantageous).
Desirable
- Experience in childcare policy frameworks and report writing.
- Level 5 Management qualification or similar.
- Group work facilitation in safe, structured settings.
- Experience in assessment and therapeutic intervention.
