PRN Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT)
Position Summary
As a PRN Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT), you play a vital role in delivering comprehensive respiratory care and assessing patients with respiratory illnesses. You collaborate with the multidisciplinary care team, communicate effectively, and ensure that patient care adheres to hospital, department, and regulatory standards.
This role requires maintaining clinical skills, competency, and knowledge to deliver safe, effective, and developmentally appropriate respiratory care for patients of all ages—from neonates to adolescents. You contribute to achieving the high standards of care established at JHACH (Johns Hopkins Health System), ensuring positive patient outcomes.
Key Accountabilities
- Assesses patients’ clinical status, evaluates progress toward care goals, and recommends appropriate next steps to develop a personalized plan of care
- Collaborates with the respiratory therapy team and multidisciplinary care team to plan and implement high-quality respiratory care strategies
- Safely performs diagnostic and therapeutic procedures following established standards, guidelines, and policies to ensure comprehensive patient care -Analyses critical situations and demonstrates critical thinking and clinical judgement to resolve issues efficiently
- Accurately interprets and communicates patient results to support evidence-based care coordination
- Documents all interventions and patient responses in the electronic medical record (EMR) for compliance and useful clinical follow-up

- Explains therapeutic modalities, procedures, and plans clearly to patients, families, and teams, adapting communication styles to ensure collaborative and patient-centered care
- Operates effectively in a fast-paced, team-based environment, adapting priorities and maintaining high-quality care during stressful, time-sensitive situations
Qualifications
Education & Licensure
- Associate’s Degree in Respiratory Therapy (or equivalent)
- Florida Respiratory Therapist Licensure
- Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential from the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) OR Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) credential from the NBRC (or equivalent approved credential)
- Graduate of a CoARC-accredited Respiratory Therapy Program
Experience
- 1+ years of experience as a Respiratory Therapist (RRT) preferred (Not required for new graduates—no prior experience needed for RRT candidates.)
Certifications
- Current BLS Certification from the American Heart Association (AHA)
- Current PALS Certification from the AHA (or must be obtained within the 120-day orientation period)
- NRP Certification required if working in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)

Salary & Compensation
- PRN Role Rates: $41.00/hour (one-tiered scale)
- Compensation will be based on equity, experience, and scope of responsibility for roles of similar calibre.
- Note: If no range is displayed, pay discussions will occur during candidate screening prior to any interactions with hiring authorities.
