Overview
The Pulmonary Function Technician (PFT) performs comprehensive pulmonary diagnostic tests to evaluate lung function, supporting physicians in diagnosis and treatment. This role ensures accurate record-keeping across the pulmonary lab, bronchoscopy lab, and blood gas lab, while prioritising patient care, safety, and operational efficiency. Successful candidates should have strong technical skills, precision, and a collaborative team spirit.

Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate records for the pulmonary lab, bronchoscopy lab, and blood gas lab.
- Conduct test maneuvers (as ordered by physicians) to assess pulmonary mechanics and lung volumes, including:
- Spirometry
- Flow-Volume Loops (FVL)
- Forced Vital Capacity (FVC)
- Maximum Voluntary Ventilation (MVV)
- Diffusing Capacity (DLCO)
- Airway resistance
- Methacholine challenge testing
- Document all test data in the patient’s medical record post-procedure.
- Assist pulmonary physicians during diagnostic procedures (e.g., thoracentesis support).
- Actively contribute to daily scheduling and patient appointment confirmations to optimise efficiency.
- Provide clear, thorough handoffs to peers, physicians, and nursing staff with a strong team-focused approach.

Credentials
- BLS Certification (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS Certification (within 3 months of hire)
- Preferred:
- Certified Pulmonary Function Tech (PFT)
- Registered Pulmonary Function Tech (PFT-R)
Education
- Associate’s degree in Respiratory Therapy
Additional Notes
- PRN position: Minimum of 1 shift per month.
- Base Rate: USD $0.00–$300.00 per hour.
