The Role – Responsible Individual
The Responsible Individual is key to ensuring the highest standards of care and compliance in designated homes. You will have overall accountability for the quality of service delivery while supporting Registered Managers and promoting operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee service operations and ensure regulatory compliance
- Support Registered Managers while maintaining accountability for home standards
- Monitor safeguarding procedures, reviewing incident reports and leading continuous improvement initiatives
- Build effective relationships with external stakeholders, including:
- Local authorities
- Regulatory bodies
- Partner agencies
- Represent the service in inspections and reviews
- Provide leadership, direction, and coaching to staff teams
- Promote a therapeutic, child-centred culture for designated homes
- Ensure young people’s voices are central to service development
- Drive data-led service improvement, including quality monitoring, policy review, and action planning

Requirements
To be successful in this role, you should have:
- Strong leadership and management experience in:
- Social care or residential services
- Supporting multidisciplinary teams
- Deep knowledge of:
- Safeguarding practices
- Regulatory frameworks
- Best practices in children’s residential care and supported accommodation
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for:
- Working with young people, families, colleagues, local authorities, and regulators
- Proven service improvement experience, including:
- Monitoring quality standards
- Analysing data and performance trends
- Implementing action plans and policies
- Relevant professional qualifications in:
- Social care, social work, psychology, or youth work
- Registered or eligible for registration with relevant professional bodies
- Therapeutic or trauma-informed approach experience, with the ability to:
- Support staff in embedding these models daily
- Strong organisational and problem-solving skills, including:
- Managing multiple priorities
- Making tangible child-centred decisions under pressure
- Commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion, prioritising:
- Rights, welfare, and participation of children and young adults
- Ideally, previous experience as a:
- Responsible Individual
- Registered Manager
- Senior leader in children’s services
- Flexibility to occasionally work:
- Evenings
- Weekends (to address urgent service needs)
- Minimum NVQ Level 5, ideally working towards or completed Level 7
- Care-based awareness combined with business/commercial acumen
