Job Description: Restaurant Manager – LSE Catering (Campus)

About the Role

The Residential and Catering Services Division invites applications for the position of Restaurant Manager – LSE Catering.

Salary: £36,513 – £41,565 per annum (inclusive), with potential progression to £44,468 pa (inclusive of London allowance).

LSE, the world’s leading social science institution, welcomes students from around the world. LSE Catering oversees restaurants, cafés, bars, and shops across campus and halls of residence, providing catering, retail, and hospitality services to staff and students.

This role offers an exciting opportunity for an energetic, customer-focused, and motivated individual to manage Coopers Restaurant. You will lead operations, ensure high standards of service, and work closely with an international community of students, staff, and guests.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the daily operations of Coopers Restaurant, ensuring efficient delivery of food, beverages, and excellent customer service.
  • Train, lead, and inspire a diverse team in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
  • Manage financial and stock operations, including budgeting and procurement.
  • Develop and implement strategies to enhance customer satisfaction and operational efficiency.
  • Collaborate with suppliers, colleagues, and university departments to maintain service standards.

Essential Requirements

  • Proven experience in a restaurant/retail environment, preferably in higher education or catering.
  • Exceptional customer service skills, with the ability to manage high-volume interactions professionally.
  • Strong planning, organisational, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Effective communication (written and verbal) to engage with staff, customers, and external partners.
  • Leadership experience, including training, motivating, and managing a team.
  • Financial and stock management skills to optimise efficiency and reduce waste.
  • Commitment to consistent high standards and teamwork.

Note: While the role is typically based in Coopers Restaurant, flexible assignment across LSE Catering facilities may be required due to operational needs.

Working Hours & Flexibility

  • Varied shifts (early mornings, evenings, weekends) to ensure round-the-clock service.
  • Operates over an average 35-hour week with straight shifts.
