Job Summary

24 hours per week

Are you a Registered Nurse or Paramedic with a passion for education and improving patient safety? We are seeking a highly motivated Resuscitation Instructor to deliver high-quality Basic Life Support (BLS), Immediate Life Support (ILS) and First Aid training to a wide range of multidisciplinary staff across the Trust.

This is a primarily non-clinical role requiring excellent communication, presentation and leadership skills, with the confidence to work independently and deliver training to a high standard.

The successful candidate will be a self-motivated individual who can work autonomously while also being an enthusiastic team player, collaborating effectively with multidisciplinary colleagues to support high-quality resuscitation training and patient care across the Trust.

Alongside education delivery, you will support resuscitation audits, provide specialist advice on emergency response practices, equipment and procedures, and contribute to the implementation of national recommendations and Trust policies.

This is an exciting opportunity to influence practice, develop staff competence and play a key role in enhancing patient outcomes and safety across the organisation.

The use of a vehicle to undertake any necessary travel in connection with the duties of the post is essential.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will deliver high-quality resuscitation and first aid education to multidisciplinary staff, supporting the development of knowledge, skills and confidence in managing emergency situations.

The successful candidate will be a proactive and adaptable team player, building positive working relationships with colleagues across the Trust to support the delivery of effective training, promote best practice and enhance staff development and patient safety.

The post holder will contribute to the review and audit of resuscitation practices and equipment, provide specialist advice and support relating to emergency response procedures, and champion best practice across the Trust.

The role requires excellent communication, organisational and presentation skills, together with the ability to work autonomously and as part of a wider team committed to improving patient safety and staff development.

Job responsibilities

Job Summary

The post holder will develop and deliver in hospital cardiopulmonary resuscitation and AED skills training of multidisciplinary Trust staff in the emergency medical management of acutely ill adult patients.

The post holder will often work unsupervised delivering high-level training to identified staff.

The post holder will assist with auditing of cardiac arrest procedures; including equipment within clinical areas.

The post holder will deliver First Aid and assist Immediate Life Support courses.

The post holder will provide clinical advice and support in relation to resuscitation and onsite emergency responses team training, techniques, guidelines, procedures, and equipment within the trust.

The post holder will support the implementation of policies, procedures, and national recommendations within the Trust.

Key Result Areas:

TRAINING AND EDUCATION:

  • The Resuscitation Officer will deliver in hospital cardiopulmonary resuscitation and AED training across the Trust
  • Ensure that the resuscitation courses meet the criteria set by the Resuscitation Council (UK) guidelines and the Core Skills Training Framework
  • Undertake course registration of candidates on arrival and be responsible for time-keeping throughout the course
  • The Resuscitation Officer will implement equipment changes required for the cardiac arrest trolleys and bags
  • Work flexibly to enhance training capabilities and deliver sessions in a variety of formal and informal settings, to all grades of staff across Trust sites
  • Implement and evaluate training, ensuring learners progress and level of competence can be assessed
  • Support the Resuscitation Lead to identify specific resuscitation training requirements by providing and coordinating comprehensive, appropriate, and effective resuscitation training for all levels of staff throughout the Trust
  • Provide mandatory training, including Level 2 and Level 3 Resuscitation Training to relevant staff. Training will include the operating and use of resuscitation equipment specific to the role.
  • As required, provide First Aid Training to identified staff within the Trust
  • Provide training to staff to recognise and assess the physically deteriorating patient
  • Impart knowledge and advice to groups in the classroom/workplace environments through teaching and presentation skills, using presentational aids and MS Teams if required
  • Have a high level of interpersonal communication skills, which at times will involve highly complex, sensitive, or contentious information at ward/department and individual level
  • Manage cleaning, maintenance, and storage of resuscitation training equipment, ensuring the equipment is checked and available for use
  • Ensure that accurate training records are maintained
  • Ensure safe practice is maintained and promoted during training sessions
  • It is the responsibility of the post holder to ensure familiarity with all training equipment
  • Work to support and promote educational innovation across the Trust

Professional:

  • Report any adverse incidents via the online incident reporting system. Participate in the investigation of any incidents reported to the Resuscitation Service and report to the Resuscitation Lead as appropriate.

  • Maintain a personal awareness of research
  • In conjunction with other team members, participate in critical incident debriefs and investigations when required

  • Effectively manage self, deploying resources in a manner consistent with the workload, taking appropriate action to optimise efficiency
  • Take reasonable care of own Health and Safety and that of others who may be affected by acts or omissions, and comply with Trust Health and Safety requirements
  • Act as an effective role model and promote effective, productive working relationships across the multi-professional team and facilitate effective communication to a consistently high standard, promoting teamwork at all times
  • Provide clinical advice and information relating to resuscitation
  • Support the Resuscitation Audit Program, this will include data collection, analysis, and reporting
  • Participate in local current research projects concerning resuscitation; including data collection and maintenance/provision of equipment
  • Contribute to service improvement which may involve suggestions received from staff that should be promptly referred to the Lead Resuscitation Officer.
  • Assist in the implementation of resuscitation policy along with other policies and procedures to meet the resuscitation needs of the Trust in accordance with Trust policy/Trust Resuscitation Business/Governance Group
  • Keep updated with resuscitation guidelines
  • Maintain own personal development by taking an active part in learning opportunities and also keep an up-to-date record of own development review process; ensuring own registration status is maintained to current standards and requirements
  • Act in ways that support equality and value diversity, spiritual beliefs, treating everyone (patients/clients/colleagues) with dignity and respect and recognising and reporting behaviour that undermines equality and diversity

Communication And Working Relationships:

  • Ensure that confidentiality is maintained in all aspects and levels of communication especially pertaining to patients, carers, and staff
  • The multi-disciplinary workforce (including Clinicians, Nurses, and Allied Health Professions and non-qualified staff) through training groups, one-to-one consultation, telephone conversations, e-mail, and in writing
  • Attend (where possible) and follow up Resuscitation events within the Trust offering guidance, support, and feedback
