The Corinium Museum holds large and internationally significant collections of archaeology, social and rural history and also operates the Visitor Information Centre. The collections span prehistory to the 19th century and cover a wide range of key curriculum subjects. We are seeking an experienced and commercially minded Retail and Commercial Manager to lead the retail and income generating activity at Corinium Museum and the Cirencester Visitor Information Centre. This role plays a key part in maximising profitability, enhancing the visitor experience and strengthening the museum’s reputation as a destination and venue for hire. The Retail and Commercial Manager will oversee the museum shop, online retail offer and commercial hires, identifying and developing new opportunities for income generation. Working closely with the Events and Marketing team and senior colleagues, you will help ensure that retail, food and beverage and commercial activity is well integrated with the wider museum programme. You will be responsible for buying, merchandising and stock control, managing systems and reporting, ensuring the shop and commercial spaces are presented to the highest standard. The role also includes supporting out of hours events and acting as Duty Officer on a rota basis. If you are commercially focused, organised and passionate about maximising income within a cultural or visitor attraction setting, we would love to hear from you. Hours: 22.5 hours per week, Monday & Wednesday (rota basis) This role requires flexibility, including working one evening per month and occasional weekends. We’re looking for someone who is: Experienced in retail and commercial management within a similar environment Confident identifying and developing commercial opportunities Highly organised, methodical and numerate with strong attention to detail An effective communicator with excellent written and verbal skills Skilled in buying, merchandising and stock management Comfortable managing systems, reporting and financial data Personable with strong negotiation and customer service skills Able to prioritise workload and meet tight deadlines A collaborative team player with the confidence to work across departments Desirable Skills & Experience: Experience managing commercial hires or venue hire operations Experience managing and motivating staff Creative flair with experience of visual merchandising Experience using retail stock management or POS systems Knowledge of heritage retail and current sector trends Budget management and stock control experience Experience producing reports, policies or publications Understanding of developing and installing retail or exhibition displays We want you to love coming to work, feeling healthy, happy and valued.
